Zachary Metz Named Partner
January 2, 2009 (New York, NY) … Consensus, the preeminent negotiation and conflict resolution consultancy, announced today that Zachary Metz had become a partner in the firm.
Metz, who directs Consensus’ Peace Building practice, is the first non-founder to become an owner in the thirteen-year-old company. Since joining the firm in 2006, he has expanded the firm’s practice by spearheading initiatives such as facilitating an East Timorese national dialogue at the behest of P.M. Xanana Gusmao, providing timely peace building programming in Iraq on behalf of USAID, and helping forge a strategic partnership between Consensus and Columbia University. The former Director of Education & Training for Columbia University’s Center for International Conflict Resolution (CICR) and a former consultant to the United Nations Development Programme, Metz has been credited with many of Consensus’ recent successes.
“Today marks an important milestone for our firm,” remarked Consensus CEO and co-founder Michael Rosenthal. “By helping us grow our Peace Building practice, Zachary has helped Consensus contribute in ways that would not have been possible in his absence. He has helped bring a new dimension to our business, in turn making each member of our organization a better professional.”
“It was obvious from the start that Zachary’s talent and commitment to the field really set him apart,” added co-founder Donny Ebenstein. “He embodies the very qualities that we are building our business around, and thus is a natural fit for partnership. We couldn’t be more thrilled.”
As a for-profit organization, Consensus is a rarity in the Peace Building community, which makes Metz’s role as both the director of the firm’s practice area and equity partner, even more unusual.
“What originally attracted me to join Consensus were the great work that the firm was performing and the opportunity to build on that track record” says Metz. “In the years since, I have seen us add new dimensions and depth to our practice areas, thereby providing even greater value to an ever-widening client base. I’m honored to accept a more central role in the firm’s future and in its pursuit of sustainable peace.”
In addition to consulting to Consensus clients, Metz teaches graduate-level courses in conflict resolution at Columbia University.
