Overview

According to many reports, managers spend as much as 70% of their time managing conflict. As work groups become more diverse, extend across regions and beyond borders, and incorporate different cultural backgrounds, the likelihood for and complexity of conflict increases. Left unaddressed, the costs of destructive conflict to the individuals involved and to their organizations can be catastrophic, leading to low productivity, inefficiency, broken relationships, heightened attrition, and squandered opportunities. However, conflict can be a powerful engine for change and growth. Constructive conflict and interpersonal differences can lead to new perspectives and creativity, as well as highlight issues that require immediate attention. Thus, if conflict is harnessed correctly, it can be a positive aspect of social and organizational dynamics. This highly-interactive workshop teaches the skills needed to both resolve conflict and capitalize on the opportunities it presents.

Some of the things you will learn include…
  • …conflict resolution methodologies developed by Consensus, Columbia University, Harvard Law School, and other leading institutions

  • …how to apply the methodologies to a wide variety of conflict situations

  • …the core competencies that distinguish successful conflict-negotiators, mediators, and other conflict-resolution specialists

  • …skills for preparing an intervention to address an active conflict

  • …how to manage the conflict resolution process effectively, while protecting relationships with conflict partners
